Michael Byrne

Managing Director

Michael has a background in Sail Training having come up through the ranks of the ISA syllabus from the age of 14 to instruct since the age of 18. He qualified with a higher national diploma in outdoor adventure management where he branched into windsurfing, powerboating and kayaking.

Michael continued on to gain a degree in outdoor education and leisure in GMIT Castlebar. He also held the position of assistant manager in one of the largest adventure centres on the east coast; Avon Ri Leisure Resort, Blessington. He has developed his own initiatives in the past to cater for sailing, windsurfing and powerboating having Senior Instructor qualifications in all areas.

Having always had a passion for the outdoors and for business and enterprise, the next step into developing an outdoor company was inevitable and a welcome challenge.

Michael is now also the Manager with Sail Training Ireland for Youth Development, an organisation set up to take over from where the Asgard left off. They are focused on getting youths on sail training vessels around the world while also encouraging tall ships to visit Ireland.
